From a very young age, I knew my purpose was to help people. That passion was inspired by my aunt, Missouria L. Walker, RN, a remarkable nurse from Clinton, South Carolina, whose life of service left a lasting impact on our family and community.

During the tuberculosis era, she relocated from South Carolina to New York, started working at Sea View Hospital in Staten Island, New York. Where she became one of the pioneering nurses recognized in the book The Black Angels. Her compassion, dedication, and commitment to caring for those in need taught me that every person deserves dignity, respect, and a second chance. Growing up, I watched her open her heart and her home to people facing difficult circumstances. She never judged anyone by their struggles; instead, she focused on helping them find hope and stability.

That legacy of service became the foundation of Helping Hands Shared Housing.

Our homes are more than places to live—they are communities built on support, encouragement, and belonging. We believe that everyone deserves a safe place to call home and an opportunity to rebuild their lives. Whether someone is transitioning from rehabilitation, reentering society after incarceration, or simply facing challenging circumstances, we are committed to providing a pathway toward independence and success.

Helping Hands Shared Housing was created to honor the values my aunt lived by every day: compassion, service, and unwavering belief in people. Through our housing programs, we strive to create not just residences, but families, support networks, and opportunities for brighter futures.

As a family deeply connected to military service, we are also proud to honor our nation's veterans through dedicated housing initiatives. Our veteran housing program is inspired by the service and sacrifice of family members and loved ones who proudly served our country, including:
